Indications/Uses
Treatment of herpes zoster & herpes simplex infection.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Treatment of herpes zoster 1 g tds for 7 days. Immunocompromised patient 1 g tds for 7 days & for 2 days following crushing of lesions. Treatment of herpes simplex 500 mg bd; recurrent episodes: 3-5 days, initial episodes: 10 days. Immunocompromised patient 1 g bd for 5 days. Treatment of cold sores 2 g bd for 1 day, 2nd dose in the 12 hr (no sooner than 6 hr) after 1st dose.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Ensure adequate fluid intake. Renal or hepatic impairment. Elderly. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, nausea, dyspnoea, rash including photosensitivity.
Drug Interactions
Mycophenolate mofetil, cyclosporin, tacrolimus.
